Monday 27th April

It was a very exciting day in Year 2 today!

First up was Flag Raising and we got to put the poppies we had made into the garden at the front of the school to remember all the soldiers that have died at war. They looked fantastic!!

We then had our Anzac Day Ceremony where we celebrated the 100th Anniversary of Gallipoli and learnt lots about World War I from all the grades in the school.

For Maths today we completed our Assessment of Learning for Data. We used a criteria to help us collect and present data ... we even made a picture graph on the iPads!

Billy's first night out!

2W's class teddy bear, "Billy" visited Ivy's house on Thursday night. Both Ivy and Billy were very excited to share their adventures with 2W on Friday. Apparently Billy spent some of the night hiding from Ivy! Ivy gave Billy some chicken to keep in his bag in case he gets hungry.

Billy is off to Cooper's house for the weekend :)

Special visitor

Today we had a very special visitor come to OLHC.

We went into the Hall this morning with Kinder and Year 1 to listen to a soldier from the Australian Defence Force in the lead up to our Anzac Day celebrations.

Year 2's Class Shop

One of our favourite parts of Term 1 was saving our reward money to spend at the class shop every 3 weeks!! We got very good at counting our money and working out what change we should be getting...

Looking back on Term 1 ...

We worked very hard during Term 1!!

We got to know our wonderful teachers Miss Seymour, Mrs Fazio and Mrs Steptoe and we welcomed 4 new students into our grade - Karina, Viola, Ella and Reuben :)

In Maths we learnt lots of new things, especially about money!

We spent a lot of time in Maths working with concrete materials. Below you can see us estimating, playing card games, making 3D objects and matching analogue with digital times.

In HSIE, we wrote letters to Miss Seymour's hockey friends ALL over the world to learn about their families and their culture! We got some wonderful replies - including a video from Sarah in Scotland - she had such a funny accent. Here is a picture of 2W with their "thank you faces" which we sent to all the beautiful people that sent us replies!

Here are 2 of the letters we wrote:

In Science we loved learning about clouds later in the term. Here are some photos of us making the different types of clouds (and a huge mess!) using shaving cream.

In Science we also looked at the movement of the sun and earth and the effect this has on our shadows. We drew around our shadows with chalk and then went out an hour later to see how the shadow had changed.

We learnt how to work well together in small groups in PD/Health to make the best tower possible in 2 minutes with limited materials ... after having a go first by ourselves!

Miss Freeman came and visited us during HSIE to show us some Aboriginal artefacts...

And we got show off our beautiful classrooms to our G'People on G'Day...

I wonder what Term 2 will have in stall for us?
