Year 2's Mini Excursion

On Tuesday 9th June, Year 2 attended a very exciting excursion.
At 9:00am we set off in the heat to our first stop which did not seem very far at all. As you can see it was our gorgeous new statue of Our Lady Help of Christians.

We then continued on to Rizal Park and looked at the five-metre tall statue of Filipino national hero, Dr Jose Rizal. This is a very important statue to the passionate and committed Filipino community in Campbelltown.

As you can see we still had to do work on our excursion.

Our second destination was Churchfield Estate where we looked at houses that are currently in various stages of being built.

Look at all the houses we saw.

Here we are drawing the houses!

Year 2 had a great time and were very tired from all the walking. We would like to thank all the parents that kindly gave up their time and joined us on our excursion!

Pour, Mix, Knead

During our Science unit we have been looking at properties of materials and how they can be physically changed and combined.

We learnt that when we add sugar in water it dissolves.

Last week, we completed a science experiment where we combined plain flour, salt, oil, water and food colouring. We couldn’t believe what we had made.

Here we are collecting our ingredients,

Now mixing our ingredients (it was very messy),

 Then kneading the ingredients.
As you can see we were still wondering what we were creating...
  It's PLAYDOUGH (Play-doh)

A lot of other classes were very…jelly!

Hmmm I wonder what science experiment we will do next?

Hmm where should I start...

Wow! It has been a crazy couple of weeks for year 2.

In week 7 and 8 we focused on Poetry. After reading an Australian favourite 'Edward the Emu' by Sheena Knowles we wrote our own poems about our favourite animals. It was more tricky than we expected.

In Maths we have been very busy and have measured the area of numerous shapes in the classroom. We were very clever and found that we could use repeated addition.

Here we are finding the area of shapes.

In Religion we have been exploring how the Church uses symbols to communicate God’s love and grace. We had a lovely learning experience where we were taken on a spiritual journey and reflected on the signs of God’s love in our lives. We wrote a litany of thanks and shared our responses to the class.

For Creative Arts we have become musicians, dancers and have just begun Drama. We have just learnt how to play the Mexican Hat Dance using percussion instruments and it was also our first time at learning the steps. As you can see we still need some practice but I know we can do it in time for when Miss Seymour comes back!

P.S. I wonder if anyone can tell Miss Stroligo the answer to this joke..
How do you make 'one' vanish?
